However, it is also suitable for excursions and activities for families with children. Indeed it is surrounded by unspoilt nature of the marine park of Tavolara and is close to the Emerald Coast and its tourist services.
How to get to Capo Ceraso?
This stunning promontory is on the northeast coast of the island in front of Tavolara. Its location is strategic. Below the distance between Capo Ceraso and some ports and airports of Northern Sardinia:
- Olbia airport 8 km away and 10 km from the port;
- Alghero airport 150 km;
- port of Porto Torres about 135 km away.
From the porto of Olbia, at the exit from Viale Isola Bianca, turn left at the roundabout in Viale Principe Umberto and go straight on over the second roundabout till the junction with the flyover on the left. Continue straight on till the exit from Olbia, leaving behind other three roundabouts towards Siniscola / San Teodoro (those who leave the airport must take this roundabout on the right) and the Auchan Shop on the left.
Then you must leave Olbia, always straight, cross a bridge and, after a few corners and three / four kilometers, you will find the small village of Murta Maria. Pay attention: there are some works in progress on the SS125 at the height of the Mobili del Sole shop. Here there is a roundabout where you have to go straight on.
In Murta Maria at the first roundabout, turn left at the last way out for Capo Ceraso indicated by a brown sign. Then turn again after 500m at the junction where you will find the stop for Capo Ceraso on the left. Finally you reach by climbing the Capo Ceraso Resort.
From Capo Ceraso you can easily reach by car the most famous places of Gallura – Emerald Coast: Porto Rotondo is 20 km away, Palau 50 km away and Santa Teresa di Gallura at about 65 km.
The area of Capo Ceraso
Capo Ceraso is in the hamlet of Murta Maria in the Gulf of Olbia. It delimits the protected marine area of Tavolara to the north. It is a granite promontory covered with Mediterranean vegetation. Indeed probably its name derives from corbezzolo, a small tree with tasty red fruit, also called ceraso of the sea.
The beaches of Capo Ceraso
The coast is mostly rocky but there are some beautiful coves. The beaches are absolutely its main attraction. The most known beaches of the head of the promontory are: Porto Vitellu, Porto Casu, Punta Ruja. To the north there are Punta Trofino, Cala sa Figu e Li Cuncheddi at Sos Pazziseddos. In Porto Istana area to the south, we recommend Sas Enas Appara and Porto Legnaiolo.
The smallest and wildest beaches, such as Porto Casu, Punta Ruja and Punta Trofino, have coarse sand and a few rocks. They are not overly popular because around there are other beaches you can reach more easily. To get to these beaches you have to walk. Some of them have a pine grove where to eat and shelter during the hottest hours. The sunset is extremely impressive.
Porto Istana and Li Cuncheddi instead are well served by public transport. Here you can leave your car in parking area for free or fee. There are restaurants and snack bars. You can rent different types of equipment for water sports and attend courses. These beaches are the most suitable for families with children.
Otherwise you can choose Capo Ceraso Resort. It covers an area of 20 hectares immersed in the colours and scents of the Mediterranean. The types of houses are varied with parking and verandas. Many comforts: private beach, restaurant services, tennis courts and diving school. For full details on the resort you can contact ImmobilSarda.
Tourist services and activities
In this area there are a supermarket and some restaurants. In Olbia there are all other tourist services. But if you choose to stay at Capo Ceraso Resort you can enjoy the beach brunch bar, the kindergarten and the baby club.
In the evening you can choose between the animation of the resort or some popular clubs of the surrounding areas.
The north side is much windy. So it is the right place to windsurf, kitesurf and diving lovers. You can rent equipment and take courses or individual lessons for various levels at larger and more equipped beaches such as Le Saline. Thanks to the shallow waters of these beaches, families with children can snorkel.

Otherwise you can choose a tour of Olbia. In this city we recommend you to visit some archaeological sites such as Riu Mulinu Nuraghe, tomb of Giants at Su Monte de S’Abe and Nuragic Sacred Well of Sa Testa. The historic orthogonal centre of Olbia dates back to Roman and medieval period. While the walls are from the Punic era. You have to visit the Archaeological Museum (usually open from Wednesday to Sunday 10-13 and 17-20) and the cathedral of San Simplicio Martyr. The minor basilica is Romanesque and is made of local granite blocks. It is easy to reach it because it is in the centre between Via San Simplicio and via Fausto Noce.

Aggius and Gallura
You can leave the coast behind and explore the Valley of the Moon in Aggius in the heart of Gallura. This location is very scenic. It is a plain where there are some big granite rocks that date back to the Ice Age. These rocks, eroded by wind, are curved. To know the history and characteristics of this area, you can choose to visit it with a local friend of Guide Me Right. Take the opportunity to also visit Tempio Pausania.
Capo Ceraso is the perfect location for those who want to enjoy the beauty of the beaches of northeast Sardinia. The advantages are less crowd and a wilder and more fascinating context. The disadvantage is the need to move, even if for short distances, to find some additional services unless you choose the comforts of Capo Ceraso Resort.
