5/08/22 – VENCESLAO MASCIA for Arte in… Portobello di Gallura

He was born in a Sardinian small village. As a child, he began working with the chisel with his uncle Nuccio Bua, a renowned sculptor and philosopher. After the early death of his uncle, he moved to Milan where he met Maestro Arnaldo Pomodoro; he became his student and learnt the metal casting technique. Charmed by the matter, he looked for its energy and tried to free its soul.

Venceslao Mascia has said about his works «Art is a smile, a God’s gift. It’s like life, if it does not come from God, it has no soul. The artist then has to ask himself if the soul can be created in a laboratory, even with a simple machine.

His works are living stones; the energy of the matter and arcane forces are enclosed in them. He communicates with the polysemic language of matter and the conflict between sacredness and desecration.
