The history of Portobello begins in 1962, when illustrious visionaries, such as Eng. Carlo Emanuele Tiscornia and Dr. Franco Magliano came across the current site, known at the time as Porto Canneddi. Moved by their passion for nature and its respect, they decided to transform that place into an exclusive refuge for lovers of natural beauty and environmental conservation.

The ambitious project was rooted in reality, with houses inspired by the traditional architecture of Gallura, immersed in a landscape of rocks, holm oaks and junipers. There was talk of sculpture-houses, works of art naturalized in the environment, which created a one-of-a-kind ecosystem. This vision embraced the idea of a place that could be lived in all year round, with essential services, which would guarantee its inhabitants an unparalleled quality of life in the heart of the most authentic and still little-known Gallura, very far from the then nascent Costa Smeralda.
