Record-breaking Sardinia in 2022

Data provided by Geasar – the company that has been managing Olbia Airport for more than 30 years – show how, for Sardinia, 2022 was not only the year of recovery, but a record year even compared to the numbers of 2019.

In particular, North Sardinia recorded an 8% increase in traffic compared to the pre-pandemic period, amounting to about 332,000 passengers, for a total of about 4.7 million, while the increase is even 52% when comparing the data with those of 2021.

Going back to the 2019 numbers, domestic tourism was the undisputed protagonist of this incredible recovery, with a 26% increase, while international tourism struggled a bit more, but still gave great satisfaction with a recovery of a full 75% compared to the pre-pandemic period.

After a seemingly muted start, the year 2022 continued on a steady growth trend, with unexpected increases in traffic even outside the classic tourist season.

Alghero airport certainly deserves a mention: with a growth of 10.3% compared to 2019, it is among the best performing airports in Italy in terms of recovery. Olbia airport, on the other hand, holds the record for the total number of passengers transited, almost 3,167,370.

Sardinia, and in particular Gallura – Costa Smeralda, therefore continue to confirm themselves as sought-after and much appreciated destinations for both Italians and foreigners. The timeless charm of the picturesque villages by the sea, the beaches of fine white sand bathed by crystal-clear turquoise waters, the majesty of nature that paints incomparable panoramas, continue to captivate and enchant those who have the opportunity to experience them, taking home with them unforgettable emotions and memories.
